The Historic Ownership of Moston

The Historic Ownership of Moston

The township of Moston was historically owned by the Venables-Vernon family and eventually sold at the dawn of the 19th Century. Two hundred years later the estate had been broken up somewhat but still half owned by the same family being the three grandchildren of Jacob Bright esq. Minor owners at the time were the Skerratts (Solicitors from Sandbach), John Boston a Farmer come shoemaker (at Moston House) and Samuel Lewis (Walnut Tree)

The Vernon family sold the estate to John Armitstead of Cranage Hall in 1801. In 1845 his son Laurence then sold it to a Cotton Manufacturer from Greenbank, Rochdale. It was his descendants who eventually sold of the estate piecemeal in 1910
